Frequently Asked Questions

I see you started using the Gloss-It product line. How does it compare to Zaino?

I have been beta-testing the Gloss-It polish line for about 6 months, and I never thought I would find another polymer polish that compares to Zaino Show Car Polishes.

I started to see what else was available when I had a long term client who approached me telling me that he loves Zaino but he missed the depth and wetness that a carnauba gave to his black BMW M5.

I started doing tons of research on all the different polishes on the market, buying over $500 worth of these different polishes and testing on my personal, friend's, and family's vehicles to compare the effect, outcome, durability, quality, ease of application, removal, depth, and shine.

My final result was the Gloss-It show car polishes. This polish provides ease of application and removal, 6-8 months of durability, and provides an extensive depth and shine that rivals all that I have tried.

Gloss It Appearance products were developed and tested in a real detailing environment -- over 15 years and 15,000 cars! Granite Auto Grooming facility uses these products exclusively on the finest luxury and exotic cars. Granite Auto Grooming is Las Vegas' premier detail shop. After visiting Granite Auto Grooming and speaking with Rich Light in person. I knew I had a winning product line for my company.

Is Gloss-It polish a sealant; how long does the polish last; does it give the same mirror-like reflection on paint?

A paint sealant is a completely synthetic product designed for long-term paint protection and easy application. Paint sealants are composed mainly of polymers, which last longer than any natural wax and are highly resistant to the elements. Synthetic liquid waxes are another way of describing paint sealants.

The main benefit of a paint sealant is durability. Polymer-based sealants will last approximately 3 to 6 months. Acrylic sealants, like Gloss-It, last up to a year. The latest technology in liquid polymers allows paint sealants to closely replicate the gloss and depth of a carnauba with a longer-lasting finish.

So, Yes. Gloss-It is considered a paint sealant. My testing has shown durability of 6 months with no problems. I always advise my clients to have their vehicles polished at least every 3-6 months.

The Gloss-It yields an incredible shine, and a deep gloss; almost making the vehicle look like it is still wet. This is what really made me make a switch from Zaino to the Gloss-It Polishes. A polish product that simulates the outcome of a carnauba.

What is the difference in Waxes and Polishes?

Wax has been a long standing favorite in the automotive, boating, and aircraft industries for surface protection - carnauba wax being a traditional favorite. However, recently the chemical industry has developed newer technology in polymers. Polymers can be thought of as little microscopic beads. Polymers can be synthetic, plastic, or vegetative. The polymer "beads" are tiny enough to actually work their way into the naturally found pores of paint and gel coats. These "beads" fill up the pore, thus blocking it from dirt and other elemental particulates which would enter if the pore was untreated.

The difference between a wax and a polish/sealer, is that a wax coats, while a polish seals. When you spread wax on a paint or gel coat surface, you are spreading a coating over top of the surface. The wax dries, you wipe down the dry surface wax, removing the excess, and some of the wax remains on the surface in the form of a coating. But polymer-based polishes have microscopic properties, don't form a wax-based coating, fill pores, and thus they are sealing and therefore called "sealers".

The industry calls these new products which contain no waxes, and contain polymers, "Polish". They serve the same purpose as wax, in that they both shine and protect the surface.

However, polymer-based polishes are more effective than waxes. Because waxes reside on the surface as a coating, that coating is susceptible to quicker wear and eventual destruction by harmful and abrasive elements. The sun beats away at the wax coating, rain pounds it with various microscopic particulates, and even the wind can push abrasives across the wax surface.

Polymer polishes on the other hand, penetrate the pores as opposed to just the surface. This trait helps a polymer protect the surface from the damaging elements longer.

What is your boundary for detailing?
We currently have a 40-mile boundary for a single vehicle detail. If you have more than one vehicle and live outside our 40-mile boundary, please email or call me to discuss options.

Do you need electricity or water from my home/office to detail my car?
No, our state-of-the-art mobile detail rig has 525 gallons of filtered water and two generators onboard to provide electricity for our detailing equipment. This allows us to go anywhere you might be, even if electricity is not available.

What hours do you work?
Our standard hours are Monday through Friday. Saturdays are upon request and an additional charge might be incurred. We do not work on Sunday.

What payment methods do you accept?
We prefer Cash or Check; however we also take Master Card, Visa, and American Express.

How do I schedule an appointment with you?
The best way to schedule an appointment is to send me an email at brian@detailwerkz.com

Please include your contact information, type of automobile you have, and type of service you would like. You can also attempt to call my mobile at 972.880.7277, however I will probably request that you email me.

What if I have to cancel my appointment? How much time should I give you?
Common courtesy would be at least 24-hour advance notice, but I understand things happen. I attempt to give a confirmation call the day before or the morning of our appointment. If you have to cancel, let me know as soon as possible so I can make other arrangements.

I just bought a new vehicle, should I wait a few months to contact you to detail it?
I highly recommend that you let us detail your new vehicle as soon as possible. There will be tons of contamination that needs to be removed. The worst being the shipping contamination, such as sea-salt, exhaust, rail-dust, industrial fallout, or tree-sap that might have contacted the clear-coat during shipping.

We do this by using our clay-bar treatment. Also its best to start your car's life with a great application of Gloss-It Polishes. We can come to the dealership that you have purchased your vehicle and prep the vehicle prior to you picking it up for the first time. Email me for more information.

What do swirl marks and machine buffer marks look like?
Please click here to view a before and after picture of swirl and machine buffer marks.

Do you need to work under cover or in a garage?
We prefer to work outside in the direct sunlight. We do carry a 10x20 popup tent, however we hardly ever use it.

The polishes that we use on our details do not matter if we apply in direct sunlight or shade. I enjoy using the sunlight to enhance my work's outcome.

I want to enter my car for a local car show or out-of-state concourse event. Can you prepare it?
We can do everything needed to prepare your vehicle for an upcoming show or concourse event. From undercarriage detailing to engine detailing we can perform it all and then some. Please email me for more information.

Do you sell any of the products you use?
Detail Werkz is an authorized dealer for all of the Gloss-It products. Call or email me to place your order. For Zaino Show Car Polishes you can contact myself or Steve Jones @ (972) 839.1495

How often should I Clay-Bar my vehicle?
I recommend that you attempt to clay bar your vehicle at least every 3 months, especially if you drive the vehicle on a daily basis. When you start to feel your paint to be rough to the touch, its time for a clay treatment.

Will Clay Remove my Swirls?

No, clay bar treatment does not fill or remove swirl marks. Its main purpose is to remove surface contamination such as rail dust, break dust, industrial fallout, tree sap, road tar, bug residue, paint over spray, and acid rain deposits.
